Aisha Umar, a single young mother-of-two from Mubi Local Government Area in Adamawa State and Abuja’s renowned pioneer female taxi driver queried in disagreement when asked why she decided to explore opportunity in a job known to be common with men in Nigeria.

“I am a taxi driver and I’m loving it,” she said. “Some people believe that driving a taxi is a trade exclusively reserved for men and people of low life, but it is a wrong perception. I prefer to earn a decent living through this means than to sit down and beg for money.”

Navenna Shine, 65, from Seattle, stopped eating on May 3 in a bid to explore breatharianism - the concept that food is not necessary and sunlight provides all of the nourishment the body needs.

She has been detailing her experience via Facebook and YouTube. In her most recent video entry she claims she feels 'very well' and only occasionally gets 'twinges of what feels like hunger'.

But it hasn't all been plain sailing, and some of the more unpleasant side effects have included 'sensations of bile' at the back of her throat, sickness, nausea and constipation.

Shannon Rogers Guess Richardson was arrested Friday in connection with the mailing of ricin-laced letters to President Barack Obama and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, NBC reports.

Guess Richardson lives in New Boston, Texas, and was arrested in Arkansas on charges that will be filed Friday afternoon, authorities told NBC.

According to an FBI affidavit obtained by the Associated Press, Richardson contacted authorities on May 30 to implicate her husband. She later failed a polygraph test and investigators also found inconsistencies in her story, the document said. Richardsonthen admitted mailing the letters knowing they contained ricin, but said her husband had typed them and made her print and send them.

 

Ubuntu May Replace Firefox with Chromium

It seems that the long cooperation between Linux users and Firefox is over, because the developers of Ubuntu are now talking about dropping the browser and switching to Chromium. Of course, the Linux users will still be able to run Firefox, but it won’t be the default browser. The reason for switching to Chromium is that the Ubuntu Touch stack is being powered mainly by Chromium/WebKit and they now have a vested interest in its success.

Nigeria: FG plans to ban pure water (Sachet Water) in 2014

Determined to check the continued despoliation of the environment, the Federal Government yesterday said plans are underway to ban the use of plastic bags in the country.  

Minister of Environment, Mrs. Hadza Mailafia, who dropped the hint during the 2013 World Environment Day celebration in Abuja, said government would favour the use of paper bags in their place.

Mailafia, who said the ban would take effect from January 2014, also said the Federal Government was also considering banning the use of sachet water.

Florida police arrested and charged a nude man with assault related charges after stripping nude and spitting in an officer's face, according to a statement released by police in Florida.

Police said the naked man, who spat in the face of an officer and was shocked with a stun gun, told officers he was trying to propose to his girlfriend.

Casselberry police said they responded to a home around 3:45 am Sunday when a man called to report a stranger had knocked on his door and was stripping naked in his backyard.

Four Maryland abortion clinics shut down

Four Maryland abortion clinics have been shut down and three doctors have had their licenses suspended after a patient died at one clinic and regulators say they found lax procedures at all four.
