For the first time ever, a nearly 1,000-year-old Torah scroll was found in Italy.

The world's oldest complete Torah scroll has been found in Bologna university, according to an Italian professor who said that the text could be from the 12th century.

The precious parchment had been classified by the university library as from the 17th century.
Professor Mauro Perani however, realized that the text does not conform to the fundamental changes in Torah writings implemented in the 12th century.

A man decided to take care of a big bear on his own after the bear threatened to harm his flock.


The man, who is a shepherd, allegedly killed a grizzly bear with his bare hands when it charged at him while tending his flock.

Blazo Grkovic put the bear in a choke hold and strangled it to death, despite the fact that it attacked him with its paws and attempted to bite him.

“I grabbed him around the throat and squeezed and squeezed until it collapsed,” the man from Bosnia said.

In what could be a bad sign for the future of Bitcoin, the feds have shut down Liberty Reserve, a virtual currency exchange system that prosecutors claim was a $6-billion money-laundering scheme designed to help criminals and hackers conceal the origin of their illicit money.

Liberty Reserve is a Costa Rica-based online payment network that U.S. authorities dubbed the "financial hub of the cyber-crime world." According to the indictment (.PDF) unsealed on Tuesday, the service was one of the world's largest digital currency systems with more than 1 million users and more than 12 million transactions.

A man from Washington state faces attempted murder charges after police said he allegedly put his six-week-old baby daughter in a freezer to stop her from crying.

Tyler Deutsch, 25, reportedly left his baby girl in the ice box for an hour on Saturday afternoon. The girl's 22-year-old mother called 911 when she saw Deutsch remove the baby from the freezer, ABC affiliate KOMO reported. KOMO learned Monday that the infant also had several broken bones, "indicating more may have been done to the girl than just placing her in the freezer," the news outlet reported.

Newborn baby rescued alive from toilet pipe after being flushed away by parents

 A new born Chinese baby was rescued by firefighters from a toilet pipe after being flushed down the toilet by his parents. The 2-day old baby was stuck in the sewage pipe directly beneath a toilet commode in a residential building in Jinhua in the wealthy coastal province of Zhejiang on Saturday afternoon, Chinese State TV reports.

Firefighters received a call from residents of a block of flats saying they heard the sound of a baby crying and believed a baby was stuck in the pipe. When firefighters got there, they removed the pipe and took it to a nearby hospital, where doctors carefully cut around it to rescue the baby boy inside.

Debbie Martin died at age 61 at a hospital in Escondido, Calif. near San Diego, her husband, Ron Martin, told The Associated Press.

Debbie Martin was the younger sister of Jolie's mother, Marcheline Bertrand, whose own death from ovarian cancer in 2007 inspired the surgery that Jolie described in a May 14 op-ed in the New York Times.
