Following Nigeria new automotive policy which was endorsed by
many global automotive manufactures, Nissan is set to start producing their
first made in Nigeria cars in April 2014. The automotive policy is aimed at
reducing unemployment rate in the country.
Carlos Ghosn, the Chief Executive Officer of Nissan Motors,
on 23rd January announced the production of Nigerian-made 4X4 Nissan
motors as from April this year.
Ghosn made this revelation while speaking at an
interactive session with President Jonathan at the ongoing World Economic Forum
holding at Davos, Switzerland.He said the cars would be produced at the Old Volkswagen assembly plant situated in Lagos and that a total of two to three million cars is expected to be produced from the plant annually.
"We are interested in producing popular
cars, totally adapted to the needs of Nigerians" Gbosn said while speaking
with President Jonathan.
He
said one of the goals of producing in Nigeria is to help reduce unemployment
rate in the country.
