Women’s handbags are contaminated with more bacteria than the average toilet, a new study has revealed.

Tests showed that one in five handbag handles is home to sufficient bacteria to pose a risk to human health.

The research also revealed that the dirtiest item in the average handbag is hand cream – bottles of hand cream were found to carry more bacteria than the average toilet seat.

Police burst another baby factory in Enugu

The Enugu State police command yesterday raided another baby factory located in the heart of Enugu metropolis. Operatives of the antikidnapping unit of the police that executed the operation rescued six pregnant young girls allegedly detained by operators of the illegal home for the purpose of making babies.

The girls, who gave their names as Chioma Eze, Amarachi Okoro, Gloria Okoye, Uzoamaka Lawrence, Nneji Faith and Akpan Juliana, are between the ages of 16 and 17 years.

Singer Beyonce Cancels Show Due to Exhaustion

The 31-year-old superstar is canceling her Tuesday concert in Belgium due to dehydration and exhaustion, The Associated Press confirms.

Beyonce has been advised by her doctors to rest. The show will be rescheduled and tickets can be used at that show.

Though Beyonce is scheduled to perform Wednesday at the same arena she canceled -- the Sportpaleis in Antwerp -- she is "awaiting word from her doctors before making a decision."

No doubt this will fuel rumors that have swirled recently, claiming the singer is pregnant with baby number two.

Court Jails Iranian For Smuggling Arms Into Nigeria

Mr Azim Aghajani, a member of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has been found guilty of smuggling weapons into Lagos and sentenced to five years in prison by a Federal High Court in the city.

A Nigerian, Ali Jega was also convicted alongside Azim Aghajani.
The Nigerian Customs Service in 2010 made a seizure of 13 containers loaded with rockets and grenades, shipped in from the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The shipment including rockets and other explosives were hidden in containers of building materials.

'24' is back: Fox reviving hit series for 12 episodes in May 2014

Jack is back. Fox Broadcasting chief Kevin Reilly has announced that 24 will be returning in 2014. According to Brian Stelter of The New York Times, the show will run for 12 weeks — meaning producers plan to deviate from its longstanding format, where each hour-long episode represents an hour in realtime.

When it debuted in 2001, that unique approach established 24 as one of the first network programs tailored for binge viewing sessions. Sony has unveiled a new variant of its flagship Android smartphone, launching the LTE-enabled Xperia ZR with enhanced waterproofing for use at depths of up to 1.5 meters. The Xperia ZR is a mid-range smartphone and ships with a slightly smaller 4.6-inch display than the Xperia Z. While the device utilizes Sony's Reality Display technology, it only features a 720p panel.

Private jets used to smuggle cash, fugitives – Federal Govt

The Federal Government on Sunday said illegal consignments and cash in local and foreign currencies were being smuggled on daily basis in and out of the country aboard private jets.

It also said some persons that securities agencies had declared wanted were being airlifted out of the country aboard private and chartered jets.

As a result, it insisted that pilots flying such jets must declare the passenger manifest before being allowed to take off.

CBN to extend cashless scheme to Anambra, Kano, 3 other states in July

The Central Bank of Nigeria plans to extend it cashless policy to five additional states effective from July 1, 2013, THE RAINBOW has learnt.



The cashless policy which has been in operation in Lagos for about a year is meant to encourage electronic and cheque-based payments over cash. 


Under the policy, a lid placed on the amount withdraw-able in cash by both individuals and corporate account holders at N500, 000 per day and N3 million per day respectively.

Individuals cannot withdraw more than N150, 000 cash per day.

Nine girls, forced into pregnancy at a ‘baby factory’ in Imo State ,yesterday spoke of how they became victims. The nine were arrested by the police yesterday after initially escaping during a raid of the ‘baby factory’.

Their arrest brings to 26 the number of victims rescued from Ahamefula Motherless Babies Home, Umuaka in Njaba Ciouncil Area of the state. They are aged between 14 and 25.

Jay Z To Perform In Lagos, Other African Cities

Popular hip hop singer, Jay Z, announced his world tour on Thursday, which includes stops in seven Africa cities, including Lagos.
According to Billboard, the tour kicks off on September 9 in Poland and will see the rap legend perform at Accra, Lagos, Cape Town and Dar Es Salaam, among other African cities.
Jay-Z is scheduled to perform in Lagos on October 7.

Imo police smash baby factory, nab impregnator, rescue 17 pregnant teenagers

Imo State Police Command recorded another success in its renewed fight against crime and criminals, following the bursting of child trafficking and baby factory syndicate in the state.

Disclosing this to newsmen Thursday evening, at the State Police Headquarters, Owerri, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Katsina, said the Command has clamped down on illegal motherless babies homes, as well as rescued 17 pregnant teenagers. (Some of the pregnant teens pictured above)

NCC Fines GSM Operators N53.8m for Pre-registered SIM Cards

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has imposed a total fine of N53.8 million on MTN, Globacom, Airtel, and Etisalat for contravening its provision on the pre-registration of SIM cards.

The sanction, which attracted separate fines, was in furtherance of the ongoing enforcement of the provisions of the Telephone Subscribers Registration Regulations 2011.
